24 Hour Dispatch Center -- back to top ↑

Sioux Valley Energy has 24 hour, seven days a week, 365 days a year, in-house dispatching services for customers and line workers. That means when you call in to report an electrical outage, you'll have the satisfaction of speaking to a friendly, courteous "real person". Occasionally, when a wide-spread storm disrupts service to hundreds or thousands of customers at the same time, your call may be answered by a computerized system. Our dispatchers are able to answer after-hour questions and can forward messages for more detailed questions to be answered the following business day. Along with dispatching for Sioux Valley Energy and our subsidiary, Sioux Valley Wireless, we also provide after-hour dispatch services for Codington Clark Electric Cooperative located in Watertown, SD, Brookings Municipal Utilities in Brookings, SD and Dakota Energy's Miller and Huron offices. |

Nothing is more comforting when coming home on a dark, stormy night than a security light to show you the way. For a small rental fee that is included in your monthly billing statement, Sioux Valley Energy customers can have the security of dusk to dawn maintenance-free rental security lights. Customers have the option of a 100 watt or a 250 watt high pressure sodium light that can be mounted anywhere on the property where power is installed. Call before you dig ... most everyone has heard this motto. Sioux Valley Energy contracts with ELM Locating and Utility Services, Inc. to provide our Sioux Valley customers, contractors and other utilities digging within our service territory with professional underground cable locating services. Customers and contractors can call 811 to request an underground locate. Sioux Valley Energy receives the locate request via a web-based software program that allows our dispatchers to screen the tickets and send our locaters to those requests where our facilities would be affected. This process saves SVE thousands of dollars a year by eliminating unnecessary trips to locate when it doesn't involve Sioux Valley Energy's facilities and assures customers that when our cable is in the area, it will be located accurately and within 48 hours. |

Sioux Valley Energy has an extensive right-of-way tree trimming and removal program. This program is well worth the cost to help prevent and eliminate tree related power outages. Sioux Valley Energy line workers patrol the line annually and inspect for deficiencies that need to be repaired and concerns with trees in the right-of-way. Our tree trimming contractors are highly skilled arborist professionals that know just how to trim a tree to make it look its best. You can be assured that trimming or removal on your property will only be done with your permission. Our contractors make a point to make a personal contact with each Sioux Valley customer either by phone or in person, prior to doing any work. |

House, Building or Equipment Moves -- back to top ↑

Over the past few years, Sioux Valley Energy has seen a drastic increase in the number of house moves that pass through our service territory. With the numbers reaching well into the hundreds each year, we have implemented a policy to help make sure each move is done safely and timely. SVE requires a 48 hour notice prior to each move along with a deposit that can be made at one of our service centers or can be given to a line worker on site. Deposit amounts are based on the number of miles the house will be traveling and the loaded height of the house. Any additional costs will be billed following the move and any excess funds from the deposit will be refunded in the form of a check. |

Stray voltage is a relatively small voltage difference between two points that an animal or person touches simultaneously. Only professional testing can absolutely identify stray voltage sources, and although a wide range of symptoms have been associated with stray voltage, those same symptoms can sometimes be the result of other non-electrical causes. Sioux Valley Energy has trained professionals to research and correct stray voltage issues. Sioux Valley Energy employs several highly-trained, licensed electricians to assist you with a variety of wiring needs, including new wiring or repair, service entrance installation or upgrading, overhead to underground wiring conversion, trenching, pole setting, underground fault locating and repair, sub-meter installation and load management installation. **Overtime rate is time and one-half -- Sundays are two times regular rate**

Trip Charge: An additional fee will be applied to all of the above services to cover transportation and travel costs. The rate will be $35.00 per site visit. A site visit is considered to be up to six hours of continuous work on site.
